Gustav was born in Rotterdam in 1968.

Gustav was always fascinated by photography, but in 2005 he became serious with this hobby. His interest is nature photography in general, but birds have his preference, especially the kingfisher. He is also obsessed with insects and landscapes.

Gustav puts a lot of time in photographing the kingfisher. If he has found the kingfishers habitat, he also tries to find out where the kingfisher fish. He puts up a portable camouflage tent where he can photograph the birds without disturbing them.

Start
ing with an analogue camera from Minolta around 2005, he then took the step to digital photography with a Minolta D7d. After a while he found some weaknesses in the combination he used and he went in search of better equipment.

During his search he concluded that the cameras and lenses from Sony, which is much more in the digital photography world manifest
, came closest to his wishes. The Minolta combination is replaced by a Sony A700 with a 70-200 f2.8 lens. The lens is a bit small but for places where he takes his pictures it’s fine.

Gustav’s pictures have not gone unnoticed by the people of Sony Netherlands and even in the United Kingdom, they use his photographs and his expert opinion. He regularly receives invitations to visit England to talk about his photos.

The people who visit the fairs where Gustav is invited, make good use of his expert opinion on the kingfisher. Sony Netherlands has already pledged that they would strengthen the collective work.

The pictures by Gustav can be found at various international
forums. The blue and orange kingfisher pictures from our series get global attention. He gets several inquiries from all countries in the world asking how he is able to get so close to such a shy bird.
